This is what summer in Turku looks like - From morning to night
1. Good morning, Turku
The bird’s eye view gives us a whole new perspective on Turku bathing in sunrise. The old fashioned wooden house blocks in Port Arthur as well as the St Michael's Church are nationally noted cultural environments. A walk in the summer air is a perfect way to admire the wooden houses and if there is a possibility, paying a visit to the church is also worth the while.
Address: Puistokatu 16, Turku
2. The city awakens
For many people Puolala park is the best place to spend a summer day. Beautiful old buildings surround the city center park in which people read and play games. In this picture the photographer has caught a morning moment right before the park fills up with people. The result is magical!
Address: Puolalanmäki, Turku
3. Mystical misty morning
Those who visit Turku for the first time don’t necessarily know that following the Aura river will quickly lead you to the surroundings of Aura valley. In here you can enjoy long walks surrounded by the river meadows or travel the river by kayaking. But only the lucky few will witness the Aura valley covered in mystical fog early in the morning.
Address: Vanha Ravattulantie, Turku
4. Rustic landscapes of Kylämäki Village in Kurala
This picture might take you by surprise – surely this is from the countryside and not from Turku? But it is! The Kylämäki village in Kurala takes you on a journey to the Finnish countryside in the 1950s. Especially the meadows, sheep and old ligneous fences make this place an idyllic piece of countryside just a few kilometers from the city center. The photographer has perfectly captured the unexpected in Turku.
Osoite: Jaanintie 45, Turku
5. Morning in Kupittaa Park
The photographer has captured Kupittaa’s moose guarding the park at the beginning of a perfect summer day. Finland’s biggest and oldest city park is a true oasis in the heart of the city. Would Turku summer really be complete without at least one day spent playing, swimming and enjoying the sun in Kupittaa Park?
Address: Kupittaankatu, Turku
6. View from Kalmasvuori
In this picture, the photographer has captured one of the most iconic landmarks in Turku – Turku cathedral – but from an unusual perspective. Even though Turku is known for its hills, few have heard from Kalmasvuori. This photo is thus a great reminder that there are always new places to visit even in a familiar city.
Address: Niitunniskantie, Turku
7. After the rain
Summer takes over every corner in Turku—neighborhoods, balconies, river bank and parks! This photo grants us a little peek into a secret world: the summery courtyard in the ever-known district of Port Arthur, known for its colorful and bucolic wooden houses. The open gate seems to invite us in to take a look at the lovely gardens, and every summer during the Portsa yard sale this is possible!
Address: Puutarhakatu, Turku. (Not an exact address since the picture is from a private area.) Puutarhakatu is one of the main roads in Portsa and definitely worth a visit if you want to get a feel of the place.
8. Sunset in Korppolaismäki
Summer night is offering its best in Korppolaismäki. The photographer has captured a stunning sunset in an urban landscape. Many have already grown to love the new path by the sea which passes by Korppolaismäki. You can choose to take a long evening walk all the way to the Hirvensalo bridge or stop and watch the passenger ships arriving at the harbor on the opposite side. Do you spot one of the ships in the picture?
Address: Maununtyttärenkatu, Turku
9. Reflections by Aura river
The Aura river has witnessed great transformation and development over the years. Many things have changed but the riverside combining old and new has kept its status as the beating heart of Turku. The Aura river is an inviting place at all times of the day which is well proved by this picture!
Address: Läntinen Rantakatu or Itäinen Rantakatu, Turku. (The photo has been taken from across the river on the western side, on Läntinen Rantakatu. The buildings in the photo are located on the eastern side, on Itäinen Rantakatu.)
10. Magical night in Aura river
Aura river and the ship Suomen Joutsen are iconic landmarks of Turku. Here the photographer has captured them in the middle of mystical river fog. The picture shows how the atmosphere by the Aura river can change from morning to night and summer to fall. Even though the night is already dark, the recognizable lights of Suomen Joutsen shed light on the city.
Address: Läntinen Rantakatu or Itäinen Rantakatu, Turku. (The picture has been taken from across the river on the eastern side, in Itäinen Rantakatu. The ships are located on the western side, in Läntinen Rantakatu.)
