A quick glance at Jyrkkälä in Turku looks like many other suburbs built in the 1970s. Of course, it is immediately apparent that the houses have been renovated and the area is pleasantly green. The difference is obvious when the first person you meet in the courtyard says hello. Around a group of benches there is lively chatter and on the lawn there are several picnic groups. What is the secret of Jyrkkälä's sense of community?
