Kauttua

Eura

Kauttua is a picturesque former industrial area, located on the upper reach of the Eurajoki River and on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi. Kauttua offers unique options for living. One can choose between the buildings designed by Alvar Aalto, Ironwork area's historic wooden houses, large areas of detached housing or apartment buildings filled with community spirit.

Beautiful and historic Kauttua

The Kauttua Ironworks (Kauttuan Ruukinpuisto in Finnish) environment is the jewel of Eura’s tourism and also a favorite recreation spot for the locals. But the historical industrial environment is not only a tourist spot - it is also a home of many lucky residents of Eura.

This neighborhood dates back over 300 years. Since then, as the paper and iron industry flourished, several iconic structures were built. One of them, a paper mill that is more than a hundred years old, is still standing to remind everybody of the area's history. The village famous for its historic ironworks is home to interesting small businesses to this day. It houses artists and designers but also different inns and restaurants.

Kauttua is a part of the central Eura right on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi and Eurajoki River. The comprehensive services of the central neighborhood are just a couple of kilometers away. The journey takes a few minutes by car and less than half an hour walking along shady alleys. Kauttua also has convenient transport connections to Turku, Pori and Rauma.

Most of Kauttua’s wooded residential areas consist of detached houses from different decades. There are brand new houses in the Lohiluoma area, but also older wooden houses in the Ironworks area. The Ironworks area’s houses are real architectural gems! And of course, talking about architecture, one mustn’t forget the iconic buildings by Finland’s most famous architect Alvar Aalto.

Other detached house areas in Kauttua are Varkaudenmäki, Neitsytmäki, Kiiskinmäki, Nummi, Kirkkovainio, Luistari and Omakotialue. Right next to the Ironworks area there are also housing companies that offer affordable apartment housing. Community spirit is real here because courtyards are managed together with the help of volunteers. Apartment dwellers also enjoy nature and good services.

In addition, one of the most picturesque areas of Kauttua is Kiperi, where you will find diverse recreational opportunities such as a beach, saunas, an ice swimming spot and a frisbee golf course.

Kauttua’s school, diverse services and recreational opportunities

Kauttua has its own school and a daycare, which is convenient for many families. The majority of daily services are located along Turuntie and the Kauttua business center, where you can find restaurants, flea markets, exciting stores and several small businesses. The Ironworks area houses some unique services and shops that you wouldn’t find elsewhere.

There are also great opportunities for outdoor activities in the village of Kauttua. The Hiittenkari nature trail at the tip of the peninsula cutting into Lake Pyhäjärvi and the Kauttua Castle Hill both offer wonderful outdoor experiences. Amongst the idyllic landscapes of Kauttua you can find the Pyhäjärvi institute that specializes in water protection and research.

Sports facilities in the area include a gym and a sand field. A football field and a sports field are close by in the center of Eura. Kayaking is a popular pastime on Lake Pyhäjärvi and there are many places on the beaches where you can rent a canoe or kayak. One of the locals’ favorite beaches is Möljä beach, where you can swim to your heart’s content. The beach offers changing rooms, a play ground and a pier. You can find more information on Pyhäjärvi’s tourism and recreational opportunities on the Visit Pyhäjärviseutu website.

Kauttua Village Association and the communal hall it upkeeps support the community spirit of Kauttua residents, rain or shine.
