Kiukainen

Eura

Kiukainen is a peaceful countryside, where several small villages are nested in the Eurajoki river valley. The area has excellent connections to the services of two bigger towns.

Peace of the countryside and good connections

Kiukainen is a beautiful countryside dotted with small villages, fields and forests on the banks of the Eurajoki River in the northern part of Eura municipality. The residents of Kiukainen live mostly in spacious detached houses surrounded by the captivating landscapes of the river valley. There are many small villages in Kiukainen and the former municipal center Eurakoski. Kiukainen was previously an independent municipality joining Eura in 2009.

It is only 10 kilometers from Kiukainen to the center of Eura. The nearest bigger cities, Rauma and Pori, are about 40 minutes away by car and the drive to Tampere and Turku is just over 100 kilometers. Cars are definitely a necessity in this rural area.

Kiukainen school makes the life of families with young children easy: kids can go to primary school in a cozy and peaceful environment. There is also a daycare, a library, a shop and all kinds of small businesses, from a masseuse to a car wash. A new fire station was built in Kiukainen recently where the active voluntary fire brigade, Kiukaisten VPK, works.

For active residents, Kiukainen has Kiuasrata jogging paths, a sports field, and a gym. There are also many mountain bike trails nearby. In winter locals skate on the school field turned ice rink and when snow falls Eura prepares tracks for skiing on Kiuasrata. Also, such organizations as Kiukainen Women’s Gymnastics (Kiukaisten naisvoimistelijat) and Kiukaisten Kisailijat offer sports activities for all ages.

Kiukainen Church and Wanha Pappila’s summer cafe serve as great attractions for tourists. Heading north from Kirkonkylä you can see historic villages in Köyliönjoki Valley. The villages represent nationally significant built cultural environments with their old buildings, charming milieu and flourishing fields.
