Panelia used to belong to the municipality of Kiukainen before it joined Eura in 2009. The village of Panelia has historic significance on the regional level, as it is the oldest settlement in the whole Satakunta. The most notable sight in Panelia is Finland's largest Bronze Age mound, The King’s Grave (Kuninkaanhauta).
However, the area’s past does not overshadow its present: many young families have found a home in the area, forming a vibrant and tight community. Most of the services are compactly concentrated in the center of the lively village of Panelia, which provides home to many local businesses. The village has a curious geographical feature - its center, containing the church and the museum, is fully circled by the Eurajoki River. There are also other small villages in the Panelia area. Most of the Eurajoki valley is flat, but there are some large forest areas in northern Panelia.
It is a short drive of around 15 kilometers from Panelia to the center of Eura. It takes only an hour to get to Pori or Rauma, and the road connections to Turku and Tampere are good as well. Because Panelia is a rural area, you need a car to get around.
The children of the area go to the local Panelia school for primary education in cozy learning environment and to the day care of the village. Everyday facilities such as a shop, a pharmacy and restaurants, are close by and make family life comfortable. Also many interesting jobs can be found in Panelia.
The village of Panelia is also a great place for sports enthusiasts. In addition to the school’s sports ground, the village also has a frisbee golf court, a tennis court, a fitness track, a gym, an ice rink and a variety of different sports clubs for all interests.
There are several cultural locations worth experiencing in the area in addition to The King’s Grave, such as Panelia Homeland Museum and Panelia Rivimylly - the only mill of its kind in Europe. In addition, Panelia is home to Panelia’s Kotiseutuyhdistys Ry (in Finnish) that promotes culture and the interests of all the different villages in the area.
