Marttilan keskusta

Marttila

The center of Marttila offers a lovely village-like atmosphere with local services. Thus, it’s no surprise that almost half of Marttila’s 2,000 residents have chosen the city center as their home. Here, they enjoy the restful, rural atmosphere of the Paimionjokilaakso valley as well as the convenient transportation connections.

The center of Marttila is nestled between the historic Oxen Road of Tavastia (Hämeen Härkätie) and the Paimionjoki River. The area gathers together many services and provides land for detached houses, right in the heart of the beautiful countryside. Many of Marttila’s inhabitants have chosen to locate themselves south along the riverbank in Kumpula, or in Metsä-Marttila, a woody detached house area slightly to the west.

Many forward-looking developments take place in the center of Marttila: new lots are being zoned and sold at a steady pace. New lots are currently available in Tervaskannonmäki as well as in Metsä-Marttila and Lammio. In addition to the owner-occupied housing, one can also find apartments rented by the municipality.

The drive from the center of Marttila to Turku takes only half an hour via Highway 10. The drive lasts about the same both by private car or by public transportation. The center of Salo can be reached even in a shorter time and the connections to the capital area are also well-functioning. Thanks to its compact size, the city center is easy to access and move around on foot or by bike.

In addition to the fine transportation connections, the residents enjoy comprehensive local services. Here, you will find everything for your daily needs: a grocery store, a pharmacy, a gas station, postal services, and a library. Moreover, some local small businesses are in service, such as a couple of cosy restaurants: grill café Pikkulämmin, catering at Kylämäen hevostila, café Härkätien kahvila an restaurant Kuokantalo. Other local businesses include a hairdresser, a health food store and an interior design boutique. Marttila School and diverse sports facilities are within walking distance in the Tervaskannonmäki-Koulukeskus area.

Apart from the services, here you will also find Marttila municipality’s most impressive sights. One of them is St. Martin's Church with a beautiful chandelier that has also served as a model for the chandeliers of Turku Castle Church. Cultural cravings satisfied, you can also enjoy nature in the central neighborhood and stroll along a particularly picturesque river path, meandering its way from the cultural landscapes of the churchyard out to the vast banks of the Paimionjoki River.

There are many associations in Marttila, the most active of which are perhaps sports association Marttilan Murto, residents association Marttila-seura and scout group Marttilan Martit. Be sure to pay a visit!
