Naantalin keskusta

Naantali

The center of Naantali is an exceptionally beautiful area compared to many other city centers in the country. Part of its charm comes from the Old Town with its narrow alleys and the seaside promenade with its many restaurants. Compact in size, the city’s well-rounded services are always close to its residents.

Besides the charming Old Town area, the center of Naantali consists of the surrounding neighborhoods Väinölä, Maijamäki, Kuparivuori, Luolala, and Naantali Bay. Since the majority of the commercial and municipal services can be found here, the city center is a dream neighborhood for those who wish to live close to amenities. The city center is also home to many of the well-known attractions – such as Moomin World, Naantali Church, the Naantali Old Town, and Naantali Spa – making it a popular spot not only among residents but tourists across the globe.

The area is also well suited for families with children, as the northern Maijamäki neighborhood hosts vocational schooling, primary schools, and a high school, while the Old Town offers its alleys to Kuparivuori school. Here, you can commute and carry other errands easily by bike or on foot. Traveling to nearby areas is also easy with Turku region’s public transport Föli. And if you are taking a ride further from the Turku bus station, Föli takes you there in only 30 minutes – and your own vehicle even faster.

The Old Town is defined as a nationally significant built environment by the Finnish Heritage Agency. With its narrow cobbled streets and wooden two-story villas, the Old Town creates a fascinating contrast to the more modern apartment buildings in the center. Brand new apartment buildings are being built in the heart of the city center and Humalisto area too. One of Finland's biggest municipal harbours, the Naantali harbor, can be found in Luolala, fringed by an industrial area that adds edge to the neighborhood’s feel.

The many beautiful and well-manicured parks in the city center bring greenness to the area and offer places for many recreational activities. Besides the plentiful lawns, you can also follow the seaside by taking the lovely walkway Rantareitti, and continue your way to the magnificent Kuparivuori cliffs along the Rakkaudenpolku path. For restful moments in the nearby forests, you can choose the nature trail around Lake Luolala, a popular place for birdwatching. In the wintertime the city of Naantali makes a ice skating and cross country skiing route on ice around the island of Väski.

Sports fans find themselves either at the Kuparivuori jogging trail, at the world-class tennis courts right at the heart of the city center, or at one of the many ice rink halls with outdoor equipment to use in Kuparivuori, Kirkkopuisto or Naantali Spa surroundings.
