Hoods' "Colors and lights" photo competition encourages you to enjoy the colorful fall and the lights that shine when the days turn darker. Now you can vote your favourite photo of the first (Colors) part of the competition and participate in the second (Lights) part of the competition from 6th until 29th November 2020.
The fall gets darker and the days become shorter in the Turku region. Luckily, we've got a colorful as well as bright surprise for this fall as we're arranging a photo competition with the theme "Colors and lights." We challenge you to capture and share these atmospheric moments of the fall.
The competition is divided into two parts that go along the changing seasons:
- The first part of the competition concentrated on the colors of the autumn. You can find the winnersof the Colors part here on our blog.
- Now, when it gets even darker, it is time to capture the lights in the dark. You can participate in the competition during 6th -29th of November 2020.
Theme 2: Lights
The Colors and lights photo competition follows the rhythm of nature with its themes. Once the trees drop their colorful leaves and the darkness takes hold, it is time to turn your gaze towards the light, wherever you can find it. Where do you think the most fascinating lights of the gloomy autumn can be found? Is it the glow of street lights in dim alleys or the headlights of passing cars? Illuminated buildings in the city, or, perhaps, a gleaming candle in the window of a home?
You can look for inspiration from the mystical pictures of the Beloved Turku photo competition we organized last year.
How to enter the competition?
To participate in the competition, send us a photo taken in the Turku region (Turku + 10 neighboring cities) in autumn 2020 that reflects the theme "Lights." Remember to let us know where and when you took the photo. If there is a story behind the image, we would love to hear about that too! :)
When: You can send us pictures during 6th -29th of November 2020
There are three ways to enter, so choose the one that works best for you:
- E-mail: Send your picture to info@hoods.fi
- Instagram: Publish a picture with a hashtag #väriäjavaloakisa. NB! To participate, your Instagram account needs to be public.
- Facebook: Publish a picture to the comment section of the competition post at @knowyourhoods Facebook page.
Selecting the winners & prizes
- The winner - readers' choice: The jury will consider all submissions and select a number of finalists. These photos will be published on our blog on December 1st 2020, after which everyone can vote for their favorite in the comments. Voting will be open during 1st-13th of December 2020. The winner will be the photo with the most votes.
- The winner - jury's choice: We will select our own favorite photo. In this category, we will especially favor interesting stories connected to the photos and those that draw attention to lesser-known scenery.
- Publishing the winners: Winning pictures will be published in our social media channels and in a local newspaper Turun Seutusanomat on December 17th, 2020.
- Prizes for winners:
- The reader's choice will be awarded a gift card (50 euros) to Ravintola Trappi in Naantali
- The jury's choice will be awarded a gift card (20 euros) to Bulleriina in the Turku region
- Prize for voting: A gift card to Fiilis Cafe in Turku (20 euros) will be raffled among those who voted on the finalists' photos.
Terms and conditions
- The copyright of the photo remains with the photographer.
- The organizer of the competition is Know Your Hoods.
- The organizer has the right to use the photos and photo captions entered into the competition on their own websites and in their social media channels with the photographer's name or user name.
- The organizer has the right to crop the photos so that they fit to the Instagram feed while publishing them in their Christmas calendar. For the voting, the finalists will be published in their original dimensions.
- If you want any other name to be used rather than your name on Facebook or username on Instagram, please mention the name in the photo caption when posting the photo.
- By posting the photo you ensure that you have the right to use and distribute the photo and it doesn’t violate anyone’s copyright and/or privacy.
- If the photos include recognizable people, the photographer is responsible that the people have given their consent for the photo and its distribution.
- Persons 15 years or older may participate in the competition, minors with the consent of their parents/guardian.
- One person may enter the competition with a maximum of 3 photos per theme. If one person enters with more photos, the first 3 uploaded photos will participate in the competition.
- Winners are contacted through the channel in which they participated in the competition. The winner must respond within 2 days to the competition organizer or the organizer has the right to pass the prize forward.
- The winners and finalists of the competition may have their pictures or story published Know Your Hoods's blog and social media channels and in a local newspaper Turun Seutusanomat.
- The photos entered into the competition must be in good taste. The organizers have the right to remove photos from the competition if they are deemed to be obscene, degrading, or in violation of someone’s rights.
- An individual competitor may be disqualified entirely if the person violates the rules repeatedly despite being warned.
- The organizer has the right to modify these rules if needed. Any changes will be clearly communicated on social media channels.
