Rymättylä spreads over hundreds of islands approximately 20 kilometers from the center of Naantali . Back in history, Rymättylä was an independent municipality until in 2009 it became part of Naantali. The center of Rymättylä is located at the southern part of the Isle Otava. Besides its charming center, Rymättylä is dotted with small villages, each boasting their distinctive and strong identities.
Isle Otava has a well-functioning connection to the mainland via bridges, which makes it easy to reach the center of Naantali. Turku region's public transport Föli will take passengers to the center of Naantali in half an hour, although an own car or a motorbike might be handy for the dwellers living in the area. With your own vehicle, it takes a bit over half an hour to reach the provincial center Turku.
Life at the archipelago often requires, and allows, travelling through the waters too. The ferry of Hämmärönsalmi brings passengers to Isle Aasla, which provides home for permanent residents. There is also a regular connection between Isle Otava and inhabited Isles Korvenmaa, Pakinainen, Ruotsalainen and Samsaari. The Small Archipelago Trail gives a glimpse of life at the archipelago, as it passes through Rymättylä both by road and the deep waters.
Besides the captivating sea, the landscape of Rymättylä is characterized by green meadows, vast fields and small patches of forest. Amidst the nature, the building stock mainly consists of detached and semi-detached houses as well as traditional farms. Many houses are located at the seafront or clustered around the fields and forests, far from the neighbors’ gaze. Majority of the services, such as Rymättylä primary school, kindergarten, library, grocery store, bank, as well the local restaurants are located along Rööläntie close to the center of Rymättylä.
Besides its permanent inhabitants, Rymättylä is also popular among summer residents and visitors from elsewhere in the country and beyond. One of the most inspiring and best-known destinations for visitors is the historical village of Röölä. Located at the southern tip of Isle Otava, the vibrant village life adds a characteristic feel to the area. Not to forget about the winding course through the dreamy landscapes of Turku Archipelago.
The local village societies Rymättylä-seura ry and Röölän kylätoimikunta support the local culture and encourage residents to nurture their unique identity and upbeat spirit. We support all such initiatives too.
