A unique historical landscape

The crown jewel of Kirkonseutu is Saint Henry’s Cathedral, which is located on the beautiful Hirvijoki river. The meadows that surround the church are also greatly valued, as the whole milieu of the church is considered to be one of Finland’s most important historical landscapes! The sheep grazing in meadows are kids’ favorite thing to look forward to in the summer.

St. Henry’s medieval Cathedral was built in the 15th century, but there’s evidence of an earlier structure underneath. The Cathedral is a point of interest for tourists and locals alike. Did you know that the Cathedral has a limestone black sarcophagus with engravings that describe St. Henry’s life? There’s an active land association in Nousiainen, which maintains the Nousiainen homeland museum.
