Yli-Maaria is a peaceful neighborhood surrounded by countryside with lots of parks and playgrounds, which makes it suitable for families with children. In Yli-Maaria, majority of houses are built in recent decades and they make up a compact neighborhood. Yli-Maaria is located about 12 km from the center of Turku. In addition, there is a sparsely populated area called Koskennurmi east of Yli-Maaria, where one can enjoy the fields and forests.

There is a great variety of services available in Yli-Maaria including a grocery store, gas station, café, pharmacy, church community center, service home, library and a new school center called Ypsilon, which was completed in 2018. There are also excellent sports facilities for both children and adults. For example, in the sports field called Ilmestyspäivän kenttä, you can play football and beach volleyball as well as go skating in the wintertime.

Connections to the center of Turku are good thanks to the nearby Tampere highway. There are also regular public transport connections as buses operate every 30 minutes to and from the center of Turku in the daytime. There is an active homeowners association Moision ja Yli-Maarian Pientalot ry in Yli-Maaria.
