During the student weeks, we will introduce Turku to the new students, so that starting studies in a completely new city would be as easy as possible. Today you will learn more about the Turku Student Village Foundation’s student apartments.

Student apartment, but where?

The Fall term approaches and finding an apartment is now a hot topic. Finding a good apartment can be stressful and time consuming. However, the Turku Student Village Foundation has made it easy to find student apartments, as it is possible to apply for student apartments through TYS with an electronic application. Living in TYS's properties has also been made as comfortable as possible: The lease includes internet connection, water and electricity, as well as four sauna shifts per month in properties with saunas.

We got acquainted with TYS's sites and picked our TOP5 most interesting ones. Would you find your future apartment in any of the following places? If you already have an apartment here, this is a great opportunity to get to know your new hoods!

Haliskylä in Halinen

Haliskylä offers comfortable living with excellent outdoor terrain and transport connections in Halinen, close to the Student Village. Although the distance to the city center is a few kilometers away you can jump on the Föli (bus) and get to the city in 10 minutes or so.

There is a bigger grocery store next door, so Haliskylä is also suitable for students who don’t have their own car. Renovated houses are especially popular with people living alone, as the majority of the apartments in the houses are compact studio apartments.

Ikituuri in Student Village

Student Village has been the place of origin for TYS housing since the 70’s and is still full of life! It is located near the city centre and its services, just over the motorway from the campuses.

The circular apartment building rising in Student Village is probably a familiar landmark for many. It attracts the attention of people passing by with its interesting design. The tower house is one of TYS’s most modern buildings.

Ikituuri is located right by the University of Turku and there are several student restaurants nearby. There is a convenience store on the ground floor of the building and a bus stop is right in front of the building. This makes it easy to travel to the campus or other places in Turku.

Iltakajo, Varissuo, is a residential area reserved for exchange students. The apartments are shared (called “soluasunto” or a “cell apartment”), with personal rooms and a common kitchen and bathroom, which adds to the community spirit and is a great way to meet other exchange students around the world. You can reach the center of Turku by public transport in an instant. The area's own services are also comprehensive, thanks to the Varissuo shopping center, for example.

Varissuo has great trails and jogging routes for outdoor activities. Also, Littoistenjärvi in Littoinen nearby is an excellent place to enjoy a day outdoors.

Ironside in Ilpoinen

Ironside is a traditional student destination in Ilpoinen, located about 5 kilometers from the city center. Nevertheless, universities and services are easily accessible by bike or public transport.

Ilpoinen is especially a good choice for a sports lover, as the outdoor terrain in the area is excellent. For example, the Luolavuori outdoor area and the Katariinanlaakso nature reserve are located right next to Ilpoinen. Ironside definitely works well for nature-lovers.

Kiertotähti in Kurjenmäki offers student-friendly living close to Kupittaa Sport Park and other services. For example, K-Citymarket, which is open 24 hours a day in Kupittaa, is located right next to it. Kiertotähti is a peaceful and secluded area but you can travel to the campus or the city center in just a couple of minutes.
