TOP 5 comfiest places to study in Turku

Susanna | 8.9.2020

During the Student weeks, we'll introduce the City of Turku to new students. Venturing into university life will be much less scary when you already know something about the city you are studying and living in.

This time we will have a look at comfortable spots where one can study. We know that sometimes it can be hard to focus while studying at home, so here are some great alternatives. Which one is your favorite?

1. Turku Main Library

The library is a popular place to study in peace, and the central library of Turku is not making an exception. A bonus of studying in a library is that there are many sources of information available. You can just stand up and walk a few steps to have all the information needed.

Turku’s main library has different kinds of workspaces and variety of services such as computers, printers, 3D printer, music room and a cafe. To have a closer look at library services, visit their website.

2. Workspaces on campus

Even though you spend a lot of time on campus in lectures, it might be useful to work there by yourself. Most campus buildings have many comfy working spaces that you can book beforehand. You can, for example, study in a completely soundproof room or sit relaxedly on a Fatboy. It is a good idea to explore available workspaces at the beginning of the school year to find your favorite place to study!

3. Market Hall

If background noise don´t bother you while studying, Turku Market Hall is an atmospheric spot that might be right for you. Have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and focus on studying.

In case the studying lasts longer than predicted, you can grab a snack from numerous small booths with delicacies. The market hall is open until 6 p.m., and restaurants serve food with after-work prices in the afternoons. Go and taste something new besides studying!

Tip: Visit Turku Market Hall in the morning and have a freshly baked bread on breakfast.

4. Coffee shops

In Turku center, there are plenty of cozy coffee shops that are perfect for studying. For example, traditional Café Art near the River Aura, Bean Bar with vegan choices, and Fabbes Cafe near the university, are great places to write essays or study for an exam. Not bad for group works either! In addition, Fiilis Cafe nearby university deserves to be mentioned as it takes special diets seriously.

Tip: When heading to a coffee shop with a laptop, make sure that there are wall plugs available. So you don´t have to worry about the battery running low while working.

5. Bar Office

Usually, the bar is not the right place for studying. However, Bar Office (Toimisto in Finnish) on Kaskenkatu makes a difference! As the name Bar Office says, it´s a popular place to work among university students. On middays, there often are many students studying or doing team work. Sometimes it can be even hard to find a free spot for a bigger group!

We wish you luck with your studies, wherever you study!
