The Southern Center (Keskusta) is a paradise for active residents. The area holds various parks with sports and cultural activities, and the famous restaurant boats moored at the Southern banks of River Aura.

The River Aura (Aurajoki) divides Turku and the city center into north and south. The Southern Center holds three major parks: Vartiovuori with a summer theater, Samppalinna, and Sports Park (Urheilupuisto) with various sports facilities, such as a summer swimming pool and a disk golf course. The old riverboats moored at the southern banks of River Aura cater to people's needs from lunch to nighttime. The center is the hub for public transport (Föli) and connections to other parts of Turku and neighboring municipalities are excellent.

Living costs in this area are naturally high, especially on the riverside, yet you get to live in the center of everything. The area contains wooden houses and apartment buildings from different decades. In the southern part of the area is an area with 'Swedish houses' from the 1940s. Luostarinmäki is a unique area and the only district of wooden houses that survived the great fire of Turku in 1827.

The Southern Center, like the rest of Turku, is playfully divided into those living on 'this side of the river' (southern side) and those living on 'that side of the river' (northern side). The southern side has a residents' association called Tälpual Jokke ry, which means 'this side of the river' in Turku dialect.
