Räntämäki

Turku

Räntämäki is a cozy and quiet residential area with good possibilities to be active outdoors, just within a cycling away from the city center and the universities.

Räntämäki is a neighborhood surrounded by fields and forests. There has been a small village since prehistoric times in the region. It has also been estimated that the first bishop's seat in Finland would have been located in Räntämäki. Even nowadays a medieval stone church, the Church of Maaria, decorates the shore of River Vähäjoki. Räntämäki is located about four kilometers from the center of Turku and has good public transport connections.

Räntämäki mainly consists of small houses, such as detached houses and terraced houses, and has a few small apartment buildings. Most of the terraced houses and apartment buildings are owned and operated by the Student Village Foundation (TYS) and right-of-occupancy operator Varsinais-Suomen Asumisoikeus Oy (VASO). The living costs of the apartments correspond to the average prices in Turku. The banks of the River Aura, extensive fields and running tracks in the forests spread around the settlement in Räntämäki and represent a valuable cultural landscape. In the area there is also Prusin Linnasmäki, which is an ancient hillfort.

Services can be found close to Räntämäki, such as hypermarket Prisma and supermarket S-Market. In addition, Turku Christian College is found in the area. An active residents’ association Halinen-Räntämäki Ry is operating in Räntämäki. Its aim is to promote the pleasant living environment for the residents and promote communality in the neighborhood.
