The Port of Turku’s operations cover the majority of the surface area of the harbor. The Port of Turku is an excellent starting point for tourists venturing to Sweden: more than 9,000 passengers pass through it daily. The large Viking Line and Tallink Silja Line terminals are located a few hundred meters apart. It is easy to reach the harbor from the center of Turku as there are pleasant walking and cycling paths along the Aura Riverbank. Public transport connections are direct and operate regularly.
The Port of Turku is a vital employer in the Turku region, and many logistics professionals find themselves working in the harbor district. Considering the nature of the area, there are currently few inhabitants in the neighborhood. Still, the area is evolving and, for example, a new ecological residential area called Harppuunakortteli will accommodate roughly 1000 inhabitants in the near future.
The future area of Linnanniemi will be an urban cultural center where history meets the sea. The neighborhood will truly be transformed when a seaside area that is currently a part of the Port opens for year-round public recreation. The medieval Turku Castle surrounded by lush Castle Park will also be part of the Linnanniemi district.
