The Hirvensalo bridge, which connects the three main islands of Hirvensalo, Satava and Kakskerta to the rest of Turku, is only 5 kilometers from the center. In addition to bigger inhabited islands, there are several surrounding smaller islands nearby. The population of Hirvensalo has gradually increased and is close to 10,000 residents in the area. Anyhow, due to its large surface area, it doesn't feel crowded.
The proximity of nature and sea, archipelagic uniqueness, and diverse residential possibilities draw both regular and summer residents to the islands. In addition to the typical detached and terraced houses, there are many high-end residential buildings and areas currently under construction. Hirvensalo island has all the basic services such as schools and offers excellent possibilities for somebody who appreciates outdoor activities.
The only route to the city center can be slightly crowded during peak hours. Moving around by bus is quite convenient. There are various associations active in the area, such as Hirvensaloseura and Hirvensalon omakotiyhdistys.
