Kärsämäki is a tranquil and lovely neighborhood originally constructed as a working-class area, yet it has transformed itself and become more versatile nowadays. It lies about 4 kilometers north of the center of Turku. Along its western border runs the Tampere highway and there are excellent connections public transport connections in the area. The river Vähäjoki marks off Kärsämäki in the east.
The residential area consists of detached houses, terraced houses, and small apartment buildings from different decades, and its housing prices are relatively low, considering its splendid location. Kärsämäki also includes an area of 1970s apartment buildings called Paltta. There are also two small industrial areas; Hiidenvartti, situated along the railway in the eastern part, and Orjasmäki, situated along the bypass road (Turun kehätie), as a part of the Urusvuori industrial area.
Kärsämäki offers a variety of services, including two elementary schools and Turku Adult Education Foundation. There are also good private sector services: two supermarkets, Prisma and Lidl, are in the neighboring Kaerla in the south. Kärsämäki also has excellent sports facilities, including the Leaf Arena sports center and sports parks. Besides, the distance to the Impivaara sports center in western Kaerla is quite short. Kärsämäki has four hills surrounded by forests with many glacial erratics. Fields and open landscape areas of the river Vähäjoki represent a valuable cultural landscape.
