Kaerla is a peaceful residential neighborhood with excellent access to recreational activities such as the forest area in Nunnavuori and various sports in the Impivaara sports center.

Kaerla is known for its closeness to various outdoor and sports facilities. Kaerla is approximately 4 kilometers north of the center of Turku. It is close to the Tampere highway and has great public transport connections. In the middle of Kaerla is the Nunnavuori Hill that has popular jogging tracks and a large shingle beach, which nowadays serves as a nature reserve. Other sports facilities in the area include the Impivaara sports center, Impivaara indoor swimming pool, Jarkko Nieminen Arena, an indoor ice rink, an archery trail, and football halls.

Kaerla has a range of different housing options. Takakirves consists of detached houses, whereas Nättinummi and Palli are apartment building complexes from the 1970s. Living costs in Kaerla are rather low, considering its good location. A homeowners association Takakirveen omakotiyhdistys ry operates in Kaerla and aims to promote the pleasant living environment in the area and develop its recreational activities.

In addition to amazing recreational opportunities, there is a health center in Kaerla and schools in the neighboring areas of Vätti and Kärsämäki. There are also two shopping areas close by; Supermarkets Prisma and Lidl in the eastern part and the versatile Länsikeskus shopping area in the western part.
