In Katariina, the sea and outdoor activities are always nearby. It is a beautiful and peaceful neighborhood with idyllic townhouses.

Katariina or Katariinanlaakso is well known for its nature reserve, covering most parts of the area. It offers both residents and visitors various woodland and seaside activities. Katariina is located by the sea, about five kilometers south from the center of Turku and is close to the border of Kaarina. The area has good public transport connections.

The residential area consists mainly of detached houses, terraced houses, and small apartment buildings that have been built around the Housing Fair area in 1988. Around 1000 people are living in the area. Most of the services are in the surrounding neighborhoods within a few kilometers from Katariina's residential area.

In Katariina there is an active residential association, Meripuistoseura ry, whose aim is to promote community, pleasant living environment and atmosphere, recreational opportunities and knowledge of Katariina's history as well as represent residents' views on city planning. Besides Katariina, Meripuistoseura also represents neighboring areas of Uittamo and parts of Puistomäki.
