Uittamo is about 5 km southwest of the center of Turku. The area is surrounded by diverse landscapes, as its western side is facing the sea, southern side bordering with a nature reserve in Katariina and eastern side, spreading to Ispoinen, is lined by the Luolavuori forests. Due to its magnificent nature, there are multiple possibilities for outdoor activities from sea kayaking to jogging in wooded, hilly trails.
In the northern parts of Uittamo, there are wooden detached houses built in the early 1900s. In the 1970s the apartment building areas of "Vanha-Uittamo" (old Uittamo), "City-Uittamo" and "Meri-Uittamo" (sea Uittamo) were built. In the next decade, a terraced house area of Naularanta was constructed. The residential areas in Ispoinen are loosely populated. The living costs are relatively inexpensive compared to the area’s great location by the sea.
There are good basic services in Uittamo such as elementary school, an assisted living facility, and a grocery store, as well as numerous recreational and leisure activities such as ice swimming, kayaking, and dancing in Uittamo Pavillion. The area has excellent public transport connections and is a great place for sailors as there is a harbor in the neighborhood.
There is an active neighborhood association called Meripuistoseura ry promoting community, good living environment, recreational opportunities and knowledge of Uittamo, Isponen, Katariina and parts of Puistomäki. The association also acts as a representative of its citizens towards the city of Turku.
