Meri-Piikkiö

Kaarina

Meri-Piikkiö offers its inhabitants the peace of a countryside at the tip of the peninsula and in the embrace of the archipelago. The neighborhood has recreational areas and beaches that will delight both residents of the surrounding areas and visitors coming from further afield.

Meri-Piikkiö consists of the coastal and rural districts of Harvaluoto, Heernummi and Piikkiönlahti, located in the former municipality of Piikkiö and in the eastern part of present-day Kaarina. Although the distance to the center of Kaarina is, for example, 15 kilometers from the eastern part of Heernummi, it is only a twenty minute drive due to good transport links. The Piikkiö association, which promotes regional development and the sense of local community, actively operates in the area.

Heernummi and Piikkiönlahti are both rural areas of the archipelago filled with fields and high wooded hills, close to the center of Piikkiö. The area is historically significant with several historic tombs and castle hills such as Pohtionvuori Castle Hill and Kipervuori Castle Hill. Incredible nature and vast wooded areas provide peace-loving residents with a variety of recreational activities. The high hills offer stunning views of the archipelago and the countryside.

Harvaluoto is a 9.2 square kilometer island that has a permanent population of about 200 and can be reached by a bridge. Harvaluoto also has a five-hectare Kaarina Recreation Area with excellent hiking facilities. In addition, there is a campground and summer cafes. From the center of Piikkiö to Harvaluoto operates Kaarina’s internal Föli connection.
