Vätti

Turku

Vätti is a lush green neighborhood with versatile housing ranging from the Hepokulta suburb to old wooden houses within a few kilometers from the city center.

Vätti is filled with parks, wooded hills and a small river, Kovasoja, which runs through the area as well. The neighborhood consists of mostly from sparsely built town houses with lush gardens. Anyhow, Hepokulta suburb with apartment buildings from the 1970’s and a small industrial area are also located in the area. Vätti is located only a few kilometers north from the center of Turku, there are excellent public transport connections and the highway towards Tampere runs in the eastern part of the area.

There are multiple services in the area including two schools and a wide range of services offered in shopping area Länsikeskus right next to Hepokulta suburb. Multiple recreational facilities can be found in the neighboring district of Kaerla where the Impivaara sports center, an indoor swimming pool, football hall, indoor ice rink, archery trail, and many other facilities can be found as well as running tracks in parkland.

Vätti also has Tammispaltanpuisto and Pirunmäki woodland area, hiding concrete bunkers built during the Winter War and now decorated with graffiti. These bunkers remind us of the location of anti-aircraft batteries purchased from Sweden. Similar types of bunkers can also be found in Itäharju and Uittamo.

There is an active neighborhood association Länsi-Turun asukasyhdistys ry operating in Vätti. Its aim is to create cooperation and cohesion among residents, promote the interests of residents and contribute to the development of services and the living environment. In addition, the oldest residents’ association in Finland, Raunistulan asuinkiinteistöyhdistys ry, operates in Vätti and promotes the small house living in the area and interests of the residents.
