Pohjola is a neighborhood located just at the border of the northern center of Turku connected by bridges over the railways. Due to the newly built residental area next to the cultural center of Logomo and approved zoning plan of Turku Ratapiha project, the neighborhood will truly become a part of the city center. The new event center, estimated to be ready in 2023, among other projects will greatly enliven Pohjola with concerts, experiences, sports and everyday services.
The most typical buildings in Pohjola are old, yet renovated wooden houses and apartment buildings from different decades, covered with red bricks. In the northern part of Pohjola, there is a well-known apartment area of Juhannuskukkula with a water tower and Turku Vocational Institute(TAI). The price level of the area is getting higher due to the newly built apartment buildings and grand development plans.
The neighborhood holds both the main railway and bus stations. In addition, many bus routes run through the area and it takes about 15 minutes to walk to the city center. The railway can be crossed easily by walking the old railway bridge or the brand new Logomo bridge. There is an active neighborhood association Länsi-Turun Asukasyhdistys Ry established in Pohjola, whose aim is to promote the attractiveness of the region, create cooperation and cohesion among residents, and contribute to the development of services and the living environment.
