Sauvo is a small and cozy municipality in Southwest Finland with approximately 3,000 inhabitants. As Sauvo is located on the isthmus between Paimionlahti and Halikonlahti bay, the nature is stunning. Similarly to the archipelago, Sauvo has as many as 140 kilometers of coastline and rocky hills from which to admire the scenery!
With excellent transport connections, it is easy to get to several cities from Sauvo, or to drive to the archipelago for a holiday. Paimio and Salo, and the coastal Kemiönsaari, Kaarina and Parainen are Sauvo’s neighboring municipalities. A drive to the hustle and bustle of Turku takes just over half an hour along the E18 motorway, and the direction of Kemiönsaari is easily reached as well. In addition, public transport operates both to Turku and Kemiönsaari directions several times a day.
Sauvo's roots go deep into the past. The first written record of Sauvo appears in the Black Book of the Turku Cathedral in the 14th century, mentioning a will in which the vicar of Sauvo left a farm to the Turku Cathedral. Sauvo’s long history can still be seen today in the municipality's spectacular medieval greystone church, which is home to a large collection of wooden coats of arms recalling a former era of prominent noble families.
Local entrepreneurship is booming in Sauvo, and the municipality provides excellent ground for self-employment. About ten percent of Sauvo’s residents are entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurial opportunities are diverse—many local companies operate in agriculture, but there are restaurant and tourism services as well as information technology and professional services.
For those who dream of a peaceful life in a detached house, Sauvo is an ideal choice, as the municipality has plots of land for every taste. The forest plots and plots near the sea are affordable compared to the prices in many larger regions. Besides low prices, cooperation on permit matters goes smoothly in Sauvo.
The Hakkiskoto day care center operates in new premises and is located near the city center, along good transport connections. Despite its convenient location, it is still surrounded by nature, and children regularly play and go on hikes in the surrounding forests. The small group sizes allow for a cozy and peaceful atmosphere. Sauvo also offers a wide range of activities for its youngest residents from baby circus to children’s music school.
The newly renovated and modern school center in Sauvo was completed in 2020 and offers children a continuous school path from preschool to ninth grade. The nearest upper secondary school is conveniently located in the neighboring municipality of Paimio. Small group sizes, a community spirit, and a caring atmosphere ensure that pupils will receive a high-quality education. Sauvo also has a youth center and a youth council, through which young people can participate in decision-making.
Two of Sauvo's most popular beaches, Marjaniemi and Sarapisto, are located in the Maritime Sauvo. Marjaniemi has a camping center and a barbecue area, making it a summer oasis for the locals, while the camping area in Serapisto is popular among visitors. An amazing kayaking route, spreading over tens of kilometers along the Sauvo shoreline, can also be accessed from both Marjaniemi and Serapisto. As the route follows Sauvo’s shoreline, it is easy to stop regularly and even spend the night under the stars.
The diverse nature in Sauvo will charm all hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and athletes. Sauvo also aims to ensure a free hobby for every child. Children have even taken part in planning activities for themselves, and coding, parkour, and performing arts are examples of hobbies that are now available for kids in the municipality.
Sauvon Syke, Sauvo Athletes and the football club Peimari United among others offer sports activities in Sauvo. There are things to do for lovers of culture and handicrafts too, such as the cultural events organized by Sauvo Living Culture Society. Sauvo also has a volunteer fire brigade.
