Vaala

Vaala is located about 9 km southeast from the center of Turku and it is bordering the City of Kaarina. Despite the border, Vaala neighborhood actually extends to Kaarina as well. The Helsinki Highway (Helsingin valtatie) runs a few kilometers west from Vaala, so the connections towards both the city center and Helsinki are convenient. There are also good public transport connections.

Vaala is a peaceful and multicultural small house area close to nature. There are a few recognizable features as majority of row houses have red rooftops and the rows of bushy crack willows are planted along the streets. There are quite a lot of families with children, yet the area also attracts the senior population. Vaala is an affordable area compared to the average prices in Turku. Residents enjoy the lovely nature tracks in the parks and forested areas surrounding the neighborhood.

Vaala is truly a residential area, so most of the services are found in neighboring areas of Lauste or Varissuo. Elementary school and library are located on the border of Lauste and Vaala. The shopping center Itäkeskus in Varissuo offers a variety of daily services and there is also an international school in Varissuo. In addition, there are only a few kilometers to the large shopping center of Skanssi and a shopping area of Länsi-Krossi in Kaarina, both along the Helsinki Highway. The homeowners' association Vaalan Omakotitaloyhdistys ry operates in the area promoting the interests of the owners of detached houses, communality and historical knowledge about Vaala.
